UK business document templates

30 documents · agreements, trading, HR and compliance · completed from your details

What you get

The documents you want in place before you need them, completed from your details rather than handed over with square brackets in them. Tell it who the parties are and what the deal is; it drafts the document, grounded in the UK statute that particular document answers to. One credit each.

Three of these are not optional, and most templates get them wrong

The written statement of employment particulars. Under s.1 of the Employment Rights Act 1996 it must be given not later than the beginning of the employment — a day-one document, not something to sort out in the first month. The 6 April 2020 amendment also widened who is owed one: the section now says worker, not employee, so casual and zero-hours staff are inside it. A great many templates still describe the old two-month rule, which has been wrong for six years.

The written health and safety policy. Section 2(3) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 requires a written statement of general policy, and the exception is narrower than people assume: the Employers’ Health and Safety Policy Statements (Exception) Regulations 1975 except only an employer who employs fewer than five employees. Take on a fifth and the duty starts.

Payment terms. Where no payment day is agreed, the relevant day is the last day of a 30-day period — for every purchaser, not sixty. The 30 and 60-day figures people quote are ceilings that cut back an agreed date, not defaults. Getting this into your own trading terms is what makes statutory interest and the fixed compensation straightforward to claim later.

The HR ones carry a warning, deliberately

Employment contracts, zero-hours agreements, disciplinary and grievance policies and offer letters are flagged in the product before you generate them. Not because the drafting is weaker, but because the cost of getting one wrong is a tribunal rather than a renegotiation, and because a policy that does not follow the ACAS Code is worse than no policy at all — an unreasonable failure to follow it can move a compensation award. Where a document is genuinely load-bearing, have someone review it.

Compliance documents are written for the regulator that reads them

A privacy notice is read against UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018; a cookie policy against PECR; an equal opportunities policy against the Equality Act 2010; a data processing agreement against the Article 28 processor requirements. These are different audiences with different expectations, which is why they are separate documents here rather than one “compliance pack” with the headings changed.
