About Almost Legal

Almost Legal is a portfolio of AI tools built for the problems most people just absorb — because getting proper help costs too much, takes too long, or feels like more trouble than it’s worth.

A parking ticket that arrived with a dodgy sign. A contract full of clauses nobody explained. An insurance company that stopped answering. A CV that keeps getting ignored. A car dent you don’t know how to price. A business that needs tools it can’t afford to buy individually. Each of these is small enough that handing it to a professional doesn’t make sense — and big enough that ignoring it costs you money, time, or both.

So most people either absorb the loss or muddle through alone. Almost Legal exists to change that.

What we build

We build small, focused tools that each do one job properly. Right now the portfolio spans four categories:

• Fines and appeals — help you self-represent when an authority or operator has issued a charge against you. Parking tickets, speeding fines, council penalties, bus lane notices. You give us the facts, we give you an honest read on where you stand and the strongest letter the facts will support.
• Contracts and documents — help you understand things that have been written in ways designed to confuse you. The small print on a deal you’re about to sign, the T&Cs you’ve already agreed to, the policy your insurer is hiding behind. Sometimes the right move is to walk away. Sometimes it’s to push back. Either way, you make the decision with your eyes open.
• Everyday legal letters — formal correspondence for landlords, employers, neighbours, insurers, retailers — anyone who occasionally needs a firm but professional reminder of where things stand.
• Everyday AI tools — practical tools that have nothing to do with law but everything to do with saving you time and money. Get a repair estimate from a car damage photo before you call a garage. Rewrite your CV for the specific job you actually want. Run your small business with 77 purpose-built AI tools instead of paying for a dozen separate subscriptions.

Across all four, you stay in control. You decide what to do with the output. We just make sure you have one.

How it works

Our tools are powered by Claude, Anthropic’s AI model, with the domain-specific knowledge and frameworks we have built ourselves for each tool and each jurisdiction. We chose Claude because Anthropic has taken safety and accuracy more seriously than anyone else in the field — and because the consequences of getting things wrong matter to the people who rely on us.

Where we work

Almost Legal currently operates across 32 countries and 25 languages, and we’re still growing. Our legal tools have deep, jurisdiction-specific coverage for the UK, US, France, Germany, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and more. Our everyday tools — CV rewrites, car damage estimates, business tools — work globally. Wherever someone is dealing with a problem they can’t afford to hand to a professional, we want to be there.

Who we are

Almost Legal is built and run by a small team based in the Isle of Man. We are a Muerto Limited company.

We are not VC-funded, we do not have a sales team, and we do not run on subscriptions. Each tool costs a modest one-off fee — see the pricing page for the details — and that is the whole business model.
