About Almost Legal

Almost Legal is a portfolio of AI tools that help ordinary people legally self-represent.

We exist because the legal system has a quiet but enormous problem: the people most affected by it are usually the least able to afford help with it. A parking ticket. A dodgy contract. A landlord who won’t fix the boiler. An insurance company that’s stopped answering emails. Each of these is small enough that paying a solicitor doesn’t make sense, and big enough that ignoring it costs you money, time, or both. So most people just absorb the loss, or try to write something themselves and hope it lands.

Our tools sit in that gap. They are not legal advice and they are not a substitute for a solicitor when you genuinely need one. They are tools that help you understand what you are dealing with, and where appropriate, put your own case in writing — clearly, formally, and with the relevant facts and references in place.

What we build

We build small, focused tools that each do one job properly. Right now there are three categories, and they are designed to work together:

Across all three, you stay in control. You decide whether to send anything. You represent yourself.

How it works

Our tools are powered by Claude, Anthropic’s AI model, with legal frameworks we have built and refined ourselves for each tool and each jurisdiction. We chose Claude because Anthropic has taken safety and accuracy more seriously than anyone else in the field, and because the consequences of getting things wrong matter to the people who rely on us.

Where we work

Almost Legal currently operates across 32 countries and 25 languages, and we’re still growing. Wherever someone is dealing with a legal situation they cannot afford to hand to a professional, we want to be there — building new tools as we go, expanding into new jurisdictions as we learn them, and giving more people the means to understand or push back on the things being done to them.

Who we are

Almost Legal is built and run by a small team based in the Isle of Man. We are a Muerto Limited company.

We are not VC-funded, we do not have a sales team, and we do not run on subscriptions. Each tool costs the same modest one-off fee — see the pricing page for the details — and that is the whole business model.

If something we have built helped you, the best thing you can do is tell someone else about it.
